Softwood decking needs regular sealing against Newcastle’s wet climate. Untreated decking becomes waterlogged within one to two seasons.

We assess the existing finish and clean the deck thoroughly. We then apply penetrating stain or two-part floor paint depending on condition and your choice. Stain soaks in and lets the timber age naturally. Paint sits on the surface and provides more uniform colour.

Northeast winters repeatedly freeze and thaw. Water absorbed by untreated timber expands when it freezes, lifting the surface grain and causing splintering.

We schedule deck work in late spring and early summer when drying windows are most reliable. Autumn and winter work is possible but requires longer drying time between coats.

Deck surfaces need grip underfoot, particularly on steps and high-traffic areas. We use anti-slip additives in stain and paint finishes, keeping the surface safe without compromising protection.

Without anti-slip treatment, wet decking becomes slippery. With it, the surface maintains grip even in rain.

Deck steps and handrails receive the same protection as the main deck surface. Handrails may be painted or stained depending on the overall scheme. Steps need anti-slip finish applied consistently.
