Garden sheds left unpainted for years accumulate deep-grain cracking, surface weathering, and grey patina. Painting directly over this wood with fence paint results in a surface that looks freshly painted for three months then flakes off.

We light-sand the surface to remove raised grain and loose material, then apply a wood preservative basecoat. This consolidates the timber. A topcoat of fence stain or paint follows once the preservative is dry. This two-coat approach gives durable protection through Newcastle winters.

Wood preservative penetrates into weathered timber and stabilises the surface. Colour-tinted preservatives are available, or clear preservatives followed by pigmented topcoat.

We specify product based on timber condition and your colour preference. Tinted preservatives combine consolidation and colour in one coat. The traditional preservative-plus-topcoat approach offers more colour flexibility.

Summerhouses and larger garden workshops are treated as wooden buildings rather than sheds. The same preservation and weatherproofing approach applies, but prep and finish are more detailed.
