Ceiling Painters in Newcastle

Tulip Decor are ceiling painters in Newcastle, covering properties across Tyneside and surrounding areas. We also cover living room painting and bedroom painting as part of a full interior project.
- Smooth ceiling painting on plasterboard and plaster
- Artex ceiling stabilising and painting
- Cornicing and ceiling rose painting
- Water damage and staining treatment
- High ceiling work with access equipment
Period homes throughout Jesmond have artex ceilings applied over original plasterwork in the 1970s. Painting artex does not require removal. Skipping stabilising primer on a damaged artex ceiling causes the finish coat to lift.
This is particularly important in rooms that have had water leaks. We’ve worked on everything from post-war semi ceilings to grand Gosforth period properties.

Smooth Ceiling Painting
Smooth plasterboard and plaster ceilings are painted with a roller and finish brush, creating an even, flat appearance. We use ceiling-specific paint that resists sagging and runs.
Preparation includes filling, sanding, and mist-coating as appropriate for the surface. Smooth ceilings in kitchens and bathrooms need moisture-resistant primer and topcoat to resist steam and condensation.
Artex Ceiling Treatment
Artex and other textured finishes can be painted without removal. We assess the condition carefully. Flaking, water damage, or cracking may require stabilisation before painting.
A stabilising primer seals the surface and prevents the finish coat lifting. Once stabilised, artex is painted with specialist textured ceiling paint that adds durability and improves appearance.
Cornicing and Ceiling Roses
Decorative cornicing and ceiling roses in Jesmond and Gosforth properties are carefully cut in by hand to distinguish them from the main ceiling. We use a contrasting colour or toning shade depending on your preference.
Intricate plasterwork requires time and care to achieve a neat result. We avoid overpainting the detail by using narrow brushes and careful technique.

Specialist Ceiling Work

Water Damage and Staining
Water stains and damage from previous leaks are sealed before topcoat application. A specialist primer blocks stains and prevents bleed-through. Once sealed, the area is topcoated to create a uniform finish.
We assess whether the source of the water damage has been addressed before painting. If not, we advise on repairs needed first.
High Ceiling Work
Ceilings higher than 10ft require access equipment such as tower scaffolding or mobile elevated work platforms. We include access costs in our quotation and price accordingly for safety requirements.
High ceilings take longer to paint because access and working position slow application. We discuss timing at quotation.
Here’s How It Works
1. Site Visit and Assessment
We visit, inspect the ceiling surface, check for damage or staining, and discuss colour and scope.
2. Protection and Setup
Floors and furniture are protected. Access equipment is positioned if needed.
3. Surface Preparation
Cracks and holes are filled. Loose artex or paint is removed. Stains are sealed. The surface is sanded and cleaned.
4. Priming
Ceilings are primed with an appropriate ceiling primer. Stabilising primer is used where needed.
5. Paint Application
Ceiling paint is applied with a roller, working from the corners and edges inward. Coving and ceiling roses are cut in by hand.
6. Final Inspection
The finished ceiling is inspected in good light and any touch-ups are completed.

Ceiling Painting Costs in Newcastle
Prices below are estimates only. Every ceiling is different. Call 0191 743 3614 for a precise quote.

Ceiling Condition
Flaking artex, water damage, or significant cracks require more preparation time and specialist primers. A large reception room ceiling with artex finish in a Jesmond Victorian terrace (approx. 18m²), including stabilising primer and two topcoats: £220–£350.
Ceiling Height
Standard 8ft ceilings are straightforward. Ceilings above 10ft require access equipment and additional time. High period ceiling with cornicing, careful cutting-in (Gosforth Edwardian): £280–£450.
Surface Type
Smooth plaster is quicker than artex. Textured finishes take longer because of the surface irregularity. Standard bedroom ceiling, smooth plaster, single colour (Heaton Victorian): £120–£180.
Call 0191 743 3614 to arrange a site visit and quote. Tulip Decor also covers period property painting for artex and lime plaster in older Newcastle homes.
